York St John University has become the UK's newest university, after being granted the privilege in October 2006.  With some 6,000 students from the UK and overseas, York St John University offers education and training opportunities at foundation, undergraduate, postgraduate and post-experience level in the arts, health and life sciences, business, management, education and theology.

The University of Leeds is acclaimed world-wide for the quality of its teaching and research, and is one of the largest universities in the UK.  This size enables Leeds to offer one of the widest ranges of academic courses in the UK. Leeds university is only just over an hour from Richmondshire.
